Food handlers ensure hygiene with certified hand dryer from Mitsubishi Electric

Hygiene regimes for people handling food professionally can now be simultaneously improved and sped up, following NSF International / American National Standards Institute’s (ANSI) 169 accreditation of the Mitsubishi Electric Jet Towel hand dryer.

The Mitsubishi Electric Jet Towel is a high-speed hand dryer with an operating time from only 9 seconds, one-quarter of that of typical evaporative dryers. This encourages users to dry their hands thoroughly rather than settle for a partial drying, which can represent a significant hygiene risk.
Significantly, Mitsubishi Electric Jet Towel directs moisture from just-washed hands straight towards an integral drain for hygienic disposal. Other high-speed dryers let water drip onto the floor, while hot air dryers evaporate it so that it is likely to recondense on cold surfaces such as taps and door handles.
NSF/ANSI 169 is a globally recognised standard for the food, healthcare, laboratories and other hygiene-critical industries. It is used to certify equipment that has ‘special, complex, or multiple functions’, and tests components, materials and performance in a test bespoke to the specific item.
In all industries handling food – manufacturing, processing, development, testing, catering, wholesale, retail, etc. – hygiene is critical. This includes food hygiene during the production activities and personal hygiene by the staff.
Companies engaged in food-based activities tend to put considerable effort into encouraging personal hygiene. For instance, they tend to avoid roller and paper towels, preferring electric dryers, which are generally thought to be better.
However, there is growing recognition of the way bacteria can spread if moisture recondenses onto surfaces touched by many individuals, and the microbial and slip risks associated with pools of water.
Mitsubishi Electric Jet Towel is also quiet, running at 58-61dB (decibels) compared to 80db+ for other dryers. It has recently been awarded a prestigious Quiet Mark by the Noise Abatement Society.
It has also won many awards for its energy efficiency and eco-credentials, and qualifies for Enhanced Capital Allowances under the Energy Technology Scheme.
About Mitsubishi Jet Towel
Mitsubishi Electric’s first Jet Towel was launched in 1993 and the version now available in Europe is in the eighth generation of its development. It has proved a winner with installers for its high tech elegance, with operators for its low running cost and reliability, and with users for its convenience, speed, hygiene and innovative design. The Jet Towel has high environmental credentials, avoiding the use of paper towels or rolled cloth and lowering power consumption and noise levels to a fraction of alternative hot air dryers.
