FAQ

What is it?

The Mitsubishi Jet Towel is a high speed hand dryer that has been in production since 1992 in Japan. It utilises a new technology to dry your hands which does not rely on heat but forces water from hands using high speed jets of air.

How does it work?

When hands are inserted into the Jet Towel, sensors are triggered, which starts the motor blowing high speed jets of air onto your hands. Water is forced off the hands as they are slowly withdrawn from the dryer. This method is very quick and can dry your hands in 9-14 seconds, unlike conventional hot air dryers which can typically take 30+ seconds. Excess water is collected in the Jet Towel’s removable drip tray for later disposal.

Is it hygienic?

Your reduction in energy consumption will save you money – a basic cost study calculator is provided in our ‘links’ section to help calculate your own on site savings. The motor technology has been tested to operate for 400 uses per day, 365 days per year, for 7 years before the motor reaches its mean time failure. The Jet Towel may be a little more expensive than conventional hand dryers, but the savings in energy and user satisfaction, make it a financially sound and pleasureable purchase.

Why should I use one?

There are many reasons why you should use a Jet Towel:* It works!
* Hands are dry in a fraction of the time of conventional dryers.
* Energy consumption is a fraction of conventional dryers.
* Jet Towel’s operation is quiet when compared with like for like or conventional electric dryers.
* Very hygienic, no touch operation.
* Designed for long service life utilising the very latest in motor technology.
* It can form part of your CO2 reduction strategy and assist in making your business ‘greener’

It seems expensive, will it last?

How often will I need to attend to it?

The drain tank has the capacity to hold approximately 800 uses. If the tank is left unattended for long periods, the water will vent slowly onto the floor leaving the dryer operational. Because the anti-microbial properties run through the material itself, you can use alcohol based cleaners. A life time filter which protects the motor from dust and debris will require occasional cleaning.

How much energy does it consume?

The heated version in high speed mode uses 1240 watts with the heater on and 720 watts with the heater off. In standard mode the unit uses 1070 watts with the heater on and only 550 watts with the heater off. The unheated unit uses only 550 watts also.

What colours are available?

The Jet Towel comes in white in the unheated version, and in white, black and silver in the heated models.

Why have a heater?

Because we accelerate the air up to 106 meters per second, this can create an element of wind chill, particularly if installation is in a cold environment (e.g. warehouse, outhouse etc). Many customers chose to leave the heater off during summer, but may switch on during cold periods.

If I have the heater on, will it dry quicker?

The principal of drying is by forcing the water off your hands not through heat. However the heater may offer minimal drying improvement of 1-2 seconds.

What happens if someone jams an object in the dryer?

A safety cut off ensures the dryer is switched off within 30 seconds.

What are the controls for?

The unit has three basic controls:A mains on/off switch – helpful to switch off when undertaking regular cleaning.
A heater on/off switch – allows control of the heater.
Air Volume – allows reduced air speed which equals less noise and less energy but slightly increases drying times.

What is special about the motor?

Unlike many motors, the Jet Towel uses a DC brushless motor which provides very long life and no serviceable parts. This equates to over 3600 hours of motor use.

Can I buy replacement drain tanks and motor filters?

Yes, please contact our sales desk to order any spare parts – 01707 278 800

How high should I mount the unit from the floor?

The installation manual provides clear advice on mounting heights for both men’s & women’s washrooms. The minimum height from the floor to the foot of the dryer is 150mm. A copy of the installation manual can be provided in PDF format upon request or from our downloads page.

Who is behind Jet Towel?

Mitsubishi Electric manufactures the Jet Towel hand dryer. Mitsubishi originally developed this drying method in Japan in 1992 and began production in 1993, making them truly the first to offer this drying solution. The current Jet Towel is an 8th generation model refined over many years, meaning Jet Towel is not only the original, but the most effective, high speed hand drying solution.

Is this dryer being used by any ‘well known’ companies?

Yes; Mitsubishi can offer some case studies on our Case Studies page, which include large organisations from various sectors of industry.

How secure is the unit on the wall?

If the unit is fixed by the appropriate 6 screws to a hard wall, it can endure 240N. But please prevent children from hanging on it.

What are the sound levels of 70dB, 60dB, 50dB equivalent to?
